I
wanted to title this episode “How to dream” but while browsing through LinkedIn
earlier this week, I read on Dr Terri Reid’s page about Myrtis Boothe the
founder & MD of MDS Ltd. Her story is a board house to Boardroom story but
the most important thing to note was that She started this business at 52 years
old, today the business is listed on the Jamaica Stock Exchange. And then I
remembered Morgan freeman who got most of his big Hollywood breaks in his 50’s.
I’m
not saying wait till in your 40s or 50s before you hit your dream but there is
a question here which is when have these guys been dreaming? I can’t imagine
how long they must have been dreaming before what eventually came to be. So, I
throw it you even though you don’t how long your dream would take, do you at
least know what it looks like? What does your dream look like?
If
I asked you to pick the most important of goal-setting or dream-setting – which
would you choose? If you listened to the episode on “Dream Biggest”, I believe
you would agree that dream-setting should come first before goal-setting. So
why is it important to encourage and develop our dream?
Our
dreams add meaning and purpose to our life. Find someone with a dream in sight
(a dreamer) and he/she is always excited about the prospect of the journey
ahead (the future)
Making
our dreams come true makes life interesting and exciting. Short dreams or long
dreams, when we achieve them – there is always a story afterwards, always.
We
talked about this earlier, if we don’t dream about the future, how will we know
where we are going? Find a man that has a definite destination in mind and you
have surely met a dreamer.
So how should we dream? Sometimes I think it’s as simple as thinking of your legacy, put yourself at the end and map out your dream towards that legacy but I say let’s learn from people who have gone ahead of us
Let
me repeat myself, Have biggest dreams – why? Small ones cannot ignite the
flames of enthusiasm, excitement, and passion. Even Mike Tyson remarked “I’m a
dreamer. I have to dream and reach for the stars, and if I miss a star then I
grab a handful of clouds”
Another
wise woman, Anais Nin, said this “Throw your dreams into space like a kite, and
you do not know what it will bring back, a new life, a new friend, a new love,
a new country.” – how about a legacy when you achieve it?
Be
willing to do whatever it takes to succeed, for dreams and dedication make a
powerful combination. “Commitment unlocks the doors of imagination, allows
vision, and gives us the ‘right stuff’ to turn our dreams into reality.” (James
Womack)
Have
a dream, believe in it. Like Eleanor Roosevelt said “The future belongs to
those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”
Dreams
are today’s answers to tomorrow’s questions. Edgar Cayce
You
can’t blame today for not making you great if you didn’t have a dream from
yesterday likewise you can’t blame the future if it doesn’t prepare for you if
you don’t start dreaming today. You would agree with me that before your dreams
can come true, you have to have them first.
So, I ask you again, what does your dream look like?
“Don’t
say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per
day that were given to Helen Keller, Michelangelo, Mother Teresa, Henry Ford, Gandhi,
Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, Albert Einstein. You have the same number
of hours per day that is was used and still being used by the likes of Bill
Gates, Warren Buffet, Barack Obama, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, David Oyedepo, Pst.
Adeboye, Samuel L Jackson, Oprah Winfrey … should I continue to mention names?
I see you understand the gist there.
What does your dream look like?
Knowing we are mortal beings, we don’t have forever to reach our dreams, so please start dreaming and working on them today. I’ll leave you today with the words of Christopher Reeves, he said “So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem probable, and then, when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable” – I say start chasing your inevitable dream today.
